This year the OLC Meeting in Poppenhausen took place on the 22nd of October. Amongst the speakers, Antares 20E Pilot John Williams presented his experience in wave soaring when flying over the Scottish Highlands. The holder of several speed records has placed his vapor trailing mark again, during this year's "Bitterwasser Cup". John was leading from the first of his six scoring flights. His total distance was 567,73km larger and his average speed was 37,85 km/h faster than his closest two combatants . The Antares Motorsystem provided John with over all 3400 additional climb meters compared to the systems of his competing friends. To do this it needed only 4,3 seconds of additional total climb time. In his presentation John reported of interesting details about the conditions of wavesoaring over Scottland. These conditions can be found throughout the year. High above the clouds and from cloud formations, he will recognize waves that will carry him across the Highlands and from cost to cost. After detecting such a wave he will engage in a high speed decent in order to reach this wave as soon as possible. John reports that the Antares provides for an almost one to one translation of the access speed into altitude. It appears that the Scottish Highlands are providing conditions that are very attractive for pilots who love cross country speed soaring. At least John proved to us that you can use these conditions to win the Bitterwasser Cup. John can now enjoy to weeks of "Fantastic Bitterwasser" and it is free of charge! John, we congratulate you to your outstanding performance and hope that you have lots of fun in Africa. Back...
